Anishinabek Educational Institute (AEI) is an First Nation-owned and controlled post-secondary institution in Canada. Indigenous institutes partner with colleges and universities to offer students degree programs, apprenticeships, certificate programs and diploma programs. AEI was founded to provide greater access to post-secondary education for First Nation peoples. AEI delivers post-secondary programs approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The educational curriculum was adapted to meet the needs of Indigenous learners to ensure it reflects community needs, cultural heritage and identity.
Campus
The AEI campuses are located on the Nipissing First Nation,and Munsee-Delaware First Nation. The Nipissing Campus is located at 1 Migiizi Miikan in North Bay. The Munsee-Delaware Campus is located at 533 Thomigo Road in Muncey. The Fort William Campus is located in 300 Anemki Place, Suite A in Fort William First Nation.
History
In June 1993, The Union of Ontario Indians (UOI), at the Anishinabek Grand Council on the Chippewa's of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, the Chiefs in Assembly directed the Union of Ontario Indians Education Directorate to develop a model of an Anishinabek post-secondary institution. The model includes provisions for satellite campuses and a community-based delivery system.
In June 1994, the Chiefs at the Anishinabek Grand Council on the Rocky Bay First Nation, directed that, the Education Directorate formally establish the Anishinabek Educational Institute (AEI) in accordance with the model that was submitted and ratified. (Res. 94/13)

AEI offers programs and courses of study in partnership with all levels of government; commissions; industries; commerce and other education and training institutions. AEI offers programs in partnership with Canadore College, St.Clair College and more.

The Government of Canada sponsors an Indigenous Bursaries Search Tool that lists over 680 scholarships, bursaries, and other incentives offered by governments, universities, and industry to support Indigenous post-secondary participation.[1]
AEI Indigenous Student Fund Anishinabek Educational Institute (AEI) welcomes applications from all full time registered students who are in FINANCIAL NEED to apply to the Indigenous Student Bursary Fund.
Amount: Varies depending on the number of applicants.
Eligibility Criteria All applicants must: • Be a registered student in good academic standing with the Anishinabek Educational Institute, including: a minimum GPA of 2.5 and no less than 80% attendance record in all courses; • Be of Indigenous Descent: First Nation, Métis, Inuit, or Non-Status; • Be enrolled on a full-time basis, including apprenticeship programs, in the current 2023/2024 academic year of study (spring/fall/winter semesters). Winter start applicants must be in good standing and returning for the second semester; • Complete the student declaration; • Fully and accurately complete the Bursary Application with all information required;

Murray David Maracle Award
The grant will be awarded to a student that demonstrated significant contribution to education, community and Indigenous issues awareness during their enrollment at AEI. Amount Two (2) awards of $500 each. Awarded to one (1) student enrolled at AEI Munsee-Delaware Campus and to one (1) student enrolled at Nipissing Campus.
Eligible Criteria To be eligible for consideration, all applicants must: • Be a registered full time student in their final term of study and in good academic standing with the Anishinabek Educational Institute (AEI); • Eligible to graduate in the AEI August 2024 Convocation Ceremony; • Must have contributed to Indigenous education, community or the awareness of Indigenous issues during their enrollment at AEI;

The Delbert Horton Award The Delbert Horton Award goes to an instructor or student who exemplifies strength and leadership in the field of education, and who upholds the seven grandfather teachings; love, respect, honesty, courage, humility, truth, and wisdom. The recipients work tirelessly to advance Indigenous education as the Third Pillar of post-secondary education to advance life-long learning. The recipient of the awards also exemplifies devotion, service and leadership to positively impact the perseverance of Indigenous education. Amount One (1) award of $500 each rotating each year between instructor and student.
Eligibility Criteria • This award can go to any AEI instructor of full time student from the past two years who stresses the importance of bringing what you’ve learned here, home and to your community to uphold these teachings. The Rose Nolan Memorial Scholarship The Rose Nolan Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Ted Nolan Foundation in 2004. The Fund aims to assist First Nations women in achieving their educational and training goals, while maintaining strong community involvement. “Collectively, we need to support our First Nations women to ensure they get the opportunities they rightly deserve. Community Development IIC-CIBC Scholarship Award New scholarship opportunity jointly with Indigenous Institutes Consortium (IIC) and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). Bursary amount Two (2) awards of $3000 each. Awarded to one (1) student enrolled at AEI Munsee-Delaware Campus and to one (1) student enrolled at Nipissing Campus.
Eligible Criteria • To be eligible, you must be a current student of a member Indigenous Institute. Any field of study may be applicable, provided that the intention of the education or professional development will benefit Indigenous Communities.
