English: On the morning of 27 June, 1864, General Sherman of the Union forces called for a full frontal assault on Conferate forces occupying the top of Kennesaw Mountain, near Marietta, Georgia. Beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 11:30 am, Federal losses exceeded 2,000 soldiers in 2 1/2 hours of battle.
Many of these soldiers were from Illinois regiments. This beautiful tribute to them was erected on 27 June, 1914.
