Neutrality

I question the neutrality of this article. For example, "Today, American television viewers will recognize the A.G. Edwards 'nest egg' as part of the firm's national branding strategy..." I don't want to flag it, but I think it needs fixed. -- SueHay 15:13, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wachovia Securities LLC

I changed references from Wachovia Corp. to Wachovia Securities LLC. The reason being that Wachovia Securities LLC is jointly owned by Wachovia Corp. and Prudential Financial, and is not wholly owned by Wachovia Corp.

Wachovia Corp owns a second broker dealer Wachovia Securities N.A., which is the bank channel and not a NYSE member firm. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.20.130.156 (talk) 21:20, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Serricchio

I'm removing the information about Michael Serricchio. According to the refereneced New York Times article, he was a broker for Prudential Securites, not A. G. Edwards, as claimed. Here's the original text.

Michael Serricchio, a broker for A.G. Edwards, was called to active duty in the Air Force reserve, but was not offered his old position back after his military stint was over. He sued Wachovia, who had purchased A.G. Edwards. A jury found that Wachovia had breached the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act by intentionally making Serricchio an offer that they knew that he would reject.[1][2]

Events of Late 2008

I have updated the Merger section to include the events of Sept.-Oct., 2008. I have retitled the section "Merger and Subsequent Aquisitions". Any comments are welcome.Dfuerpo (talk) 19:27, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute over inclusion of Fraud Allegations section

This section "fraud allegations" must be removed immediately by wikipedia or legal action will be taken for defamation of character, slander and libel. The broker in question was never found guilty in a court of law of any of the allegations mentioned below. Moreover, the company has had over one hundred thousand brokers in it's history and literally thousands of complaints were filed against brokers for one of the largest brokerage firms in the US. Dozens of brokers from the company have actually been convicted of fraud and securities violations and they are not mentioned in this article. Therefore to single out a broker who has been the victim of bogus allegations in a case that has been dismissed and the broker was not found guilty in a court of law of any wrong doing, is character assassination, defamation of character with malicious intent. Wikipedia and the authors of this slander will be prosecuted for libel and therefore this article should be removed at once.

First of all, the Wikipedia Foundation is immune to libel lawsuits. At best, you would have to pursue action against the individual editors in question.
Second, you provided no sources or evidence to support your claims that the broker in question was never convicted, and your use of terms such as "bogus allegations" is not consistent with Wikipedia's policy of neutrality and impartiality. Why are the allegations bogus if they have been investigated by a Secretary of State, and reported on in numerous media? If you have sources that would clear this individual's name, those would be welcome here.
Third, your claims of libel are baseless. All of the information provided in this article contained valid sources from trustworthy external websites--in this case, the website of the office of the Massachusetts Secretary of State. It was not false, and the prudent use of adjectives such as "allegedly" and "allegations" defeat your claims that it was done with malicious intent. For the past five months this article has been the target of repeated arbitrary deletions by an anonymous user (IP address 76.19.238.220). Not once has this user ever logged in or provided any type of explanation as to his/her repeated removal of article content, despite pleas by other authors (through the Discussion and History pages) to do so. The circumstances would have led any rational individual to suspect that this was pure vandalism, which is a common occurrence in an open, public forum such as Wikipedia.
Having said all of this however, I do agree that it could possibly be inappropriate to name only one broker in particular, without naming any others charged or convicted of similar crimes. A Wikipedia article such as this would either have to include many different names, or simply a summary of fraud accusations without naming anyone in particular. Additionally, if any editor decides to publicize the names of such individuals in a future Wikipedia article, he/she should also note whether or not that person is still employed by A.G. Edwards/Wachovia.
Therefore, I agree that this section should be omitted for the time being, unless some other editor (preferably one with expertise either in the legal or investment banking fields) sees any merit to publishing such information in the future. One other thing: apparently you are new to Wikipedia but this Discussion page is what Wikipedia editors use to discuss article content and to resolve any disputes. The article page is not the place to argue or make threats. --Sean 2015 (talk) 07:51, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In 2008, the office of the Massachusetts Secretary of State launched a formal investigation into A.G. Edwards in response to a string of complaints from retirees of the former Boston Edison (now known as NSTAR). The investigation centered on a former A.G. Edwards broker who had targeted the Boston Edison retirees for their large severance packages beginning in the late 1990s.

The severity of the allegations never exceeded the level of an administrative complaint. The accused broker never lost his license and was never charged with any civil or criminal violations.

Removal of mention of youth baseball sponsorship

A.G. Edwards sponsored many events and organizations. I see no reason to include mention of a specific youth baseball team. Also, no references were cited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.151.16.6 (talk) 21:49, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
