Pure kinetic missiles

When writing the Dutch version of this article, I saw that the English version at some point states: "Some missiles rely partially or wholly on their kinetic energy to damage the target" However, as fast as I know no such missile exists, so I'd like to see some sourcing and/or examples of that before copying it to the Dutch version. - Dammit 10:36, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The LOSAT has an entirely kinetic warhead, but it is a surface to surface missile. There is a version of Starstreak, the ATASK, which can be fired from a helicopter against an air target, but its submunitions are kinetic/explosive, and it hasn't entered production.--71.242.29.26 (talk) 01:49, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship of Laser Guidance to Beam-riding

In the paragraph regarding laser guidance and it's relationship to beam-riding, I believe what is stated is incorrect. Laser guidance as used by "smart bombs" is more akin to semi-active guidance than beam-riding as the guidance system of the bomb homes on reflected laser energy from a "laser designator" and does not "ride the laser beam." Vympel R-73

I see the Vympel R-73 beign classified as both Fourth and Fifth generation dogfighting missile. If the one classified as fifth generation is an advanced variant, shouldn't it be clarified to avoid confusion? Zeratul2k 01:51, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Done I changed it to R74 (1994–) variant of R73. --Deon Steyn 05:46, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vympel R-73 M2 ("AA-11 Archer") — Russia (1983[7]) Vympel R-77 M1 ("AA-12 Adder") — Russia (1994[8][9]) R-37_(missile) (Tests were completed in 1989[10][11] In the manufacturing and service there[12])

5 generation

This is the actual beginning of the years if there are no sources for the 2000+ year, there must be a real fact of existence. The R-33 since 1980 has a range of 160 km and 0.65 probability of kill it was originally for the destruction cruise missiles, UAVs and large aircraft. Why is it not in the list? 4 is a generation? Hahaha, then 5 generation is too weak for the 4. And overload for maneuver targets 8 g. Why is it not in the list? 4 is a generation? Hahaha, then 5 generation is too weak for the 4.

High Off-Boresite Weapons

Thanks to the F-35, off-boresite is no longer IR only so I'll be adding a section here about this and linking it in from lots of other articles. Hcobb (talk) 13:22, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
