Changing from a disambiguation page to a stub

When I started writing this note, it started out as a proposal, but I'm going to be bold and just do it, and this will be a justification instead. If you disagree, I'm happy to discuss.

IMHO, this should not be a disambiguation page. The general topic of racial equality doesn't seem to have a good article: most related articles are only about the U.S. (e.g. Race and inequality in the United States), or are about certain aspects of racial equality (e.g. Desegregation). I think it makes sense for an article to eventually be here ("eventually" because I'm not the person to write it. I'm a science person, not a humanities person).

Also, there are 50-60 incoming links to this disambiguation page, almost all of which are referring to the general subject, not to any of the pages in the disambiguation section or the "#See also" section.

So, I'm going to:

  • Change this disambiguation page into a stub, for others to expand, on the general subject of racial equality. Basically I'll take a stab at a few sentences, keep the "#See also" section, and try to find an appropriate stub category.
  • Create a new Racial equality (disambiguation) page for the two articles currently disambiguated
  • Add a hatnote here linking to the new dab page.

This will:

  • Fix, in one step, 99% of the links to a disambiguation page
  • Create a stub for others to expand on a subject that probably deserves its own article

Like I said, feel free to comment here if you think this is a mistake. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:54, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliography on Racial Equality

Hello there Wikipedians. I'm in a class where I have to edit certain stub articles in order to be graded. Here are some citations in which I am using to add some more reliable sources to this topic. Which interest me in so many ways.

  • Franklin, John H. Racial Equality in America. Columbia: University of Missouri Press, 1993. Internet resource.
  • Franklin, John H. Racial Equality in America. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1976. Print.
  • "Racial Equality." Guide to the U.s. Supreme Court. David Savage. Washington: CQ Press, 2010. Credo Reference. Web. 25 Feb. 2016.

Any more suggestions, issues, or concerns? Feel free to specify and help me with anymore citations or information.

Suggestions

What I'm willing to add to this topic is to put some historic background to how Racial equality has been an issue to every society in the United States. I would want to add many more useful contents to this article. Such as:

  • An overview of what Racial Equality is
  • Some history of the different eras that have had issues with Racial equality
  • And how these issues are still going on in present time

@Ameji054: This is a great start, Anna, but I encourage you to look for sociological literature on this. A great place to start is with the Annual Review of Sociology journal and look at the most recent article that discusses race. Then read that one to see if you see racial equality in there. Also, check with Sarah Hammill about other places to search. There is A LOT of stuff on race. Your problem won't be with finding sociological literature. Your problem will be culling through all of it to find the useful stuff. Alfgarciamora (talk) 14:31, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Alfgarciamora: Thank you so much, in all hopes to find some useful information. Ameji054 (talk) 16:34, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update, March 31, 2016

Hi Anna, I think that you started off well but that you may have gotten lost amidst this whole school desegregation thing. I think that you should forget the school desegregation stuff and instead focus on the Congress of Racial Equality and write about what they did and how they define racial equality. It really looks as though you waited until the last minute to add the stuff needed for this rough draft. You last posted something on March 7th and then there was a sudden explosion of information on March 29th, and most of this new information does not really pertain to the question of racial equality. You need to spend more time with the academic literature on racial equality so that you can delineate what, exactly, this concept means. School desegregation, although important, has its own page and its own literature. You have a lot of work to do until the final page is graded, so make sure you do not leave it all until the last moment. Keep researching and keep writing. As it stands right now, this article needs a lot of work from you. @Ameji054: Alfgarciamora (talk) 17:48, 31 March 2016 (UTC) @Alfgarciamora: Thanks I will try my best to fix everything Ameji054 (talk) 12:02, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sentence meaning/time references

Hello, I was just doing a little copyediting until I ran into a few snarls. I have a few questions about the following sentence: "In these two different proclamations, it gives a great deal to what has occurred during this era." The Free Dictionary defines "proclamation" as "1. The act of proclaiming or the condition of being proclaimed." and "2. Something proclaimed, especially an official public announcement." The "two proclamations" appears to refer to the "two issues" of the previous sentence, and the "two issues" ("the handling of blacks to ensure equality" and "the differences between southerners and non-southerners"). However, "proclamation" and "issues" are not synonyms. Also, it is unclear what "it" refers to, as a singular "it" was never mentioned, and I'm not sure what "gives a great deal" means here – does it mean influenced? Secondly, there are a lot of MOS:RELTIME references ("today's society", "going on today", and "as of now"). Perhaps it would be best to reword it. Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 01:19, 1 April 2016 (UTC) @Me, Myself, and I are here: I'm sorry I will reword everything, i'm kind of new to this. And i'm doing it for a class. Ameji054 (talk) 12:02, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help, @Me, Myself, and I are Here:. Really appreciate your insights. @Ameji054: You've got work to do! Alfgarciamora (talk) 23:33, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, Ameji054! I hope I'm not sounding too accusatory. These are common, relatively minor errors, and we were all newbies once. I'm happy to be of help. Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 00:49, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merger or Deletion proposal

Hello fellow editors. I was reading this article, and although I can see that great effort has gone into it, I simply do not think it justified that it continues to exist while there are other articles that touch on the subjet. The hard work that has gone into developing this article need not go awaste; it can be integrated into other, more pertinent articles. I hope you will agree.Jtrrs0 (talk) 23:29, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that at present it duplicates much of the content of other articles, but since it's an ongoing class assignment, perhaps we should reserve judgement until all student additions are completed. If at that point it still does not expand on what other articles already offer, I would support a merge. Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 03:22, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Follow up on Merger or Deletion proposal

Hello, as it has been a few years since any major updates on this page were made, and the purpose of the page being used as a class assignment is definitely no longer existent, I believe that it makes sense to integrate this article into other articles that greater expand upon the topic of race relations in the United States. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smammyboy (talk • contribs) 02:22, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
