Image formatting

Hi there, thanks for adding images to biographies. However, please don't use a fixed pixel width - if it's necessary to specify a size, upright scaling allows you to change the image width while still respecting user preferences. Nikkimaria (talk) 14:02, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I wasn't aware of that policy and it has been in place for years. I will try to accommodate that rule, but looking into past discussions on the matter, I have have to agree with User:Johnbod here. "...the MOS images pages have for so long been well adrift of what the community actually does, and discussions and changes here dominated by a handful of opinionated policy talk specialists, that nobody pays much attention to what the pages say any more. It can't convincingly be claimed that the MOS represents 'community consensus' on a number of points." Admittedly that discussion isn't about the upright/width issue, but I still think it holds true. Not trying to argue the merits of this policy, but passive policy (i.e. what editors do without discussion or referring to the MOS) vs. the wording of the MOS are leagues apart. Thanks. —Brian Halvorsen (talk) 00:15, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To drive that point home, the first template I tried to add an upright value to did not even have the option. —Brian Halvorsen (talk) 00:39, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Red McCarthy

Oh dear, we seem to have a problem. There are two Red McCarthy' from Canada who were known for their skating in the early half of the 1900s. There seems to be a mix-up of the two. The speed skater seems to have been born earlier than the gentelman in this article. In fact, Mirl McCarthy may not have been a barrel jumper or a speed skater. Don't know where this can be checked or who can verify this piece of Canadian sports history.[1] CheckersBoard (talk) 00:00, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
you seem to be correct as he would have to be around 13 years old at the time of this image. --Brian Halvorsen (talk) 02:53, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Segura photo wrong

The image you added to the Pancho Segura article for 1942 is clearly wrong, it is obviously Bill Talbert. Apparently the newspaper source made a mistake. Tennisedu (talk) 02:47, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
