Any relation to Ann Coulter?

Given their similar ideology, I wouldn't be surprised. 71.203.209.0 01:36, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't say their ideology is similar, but that their style, or their socuetal roles in their respective times, is similar. And I'd also not be surprised if they are related. Doesn't anyone know? Unschool 17:31, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's a common name (Google shows over 22 million hits) and there is no resemblance in terms of style (he was a mild-mannered academic and textbook writer), geography, chronology, careers, activities or politics (he was a traditional southern Democrat on race with generally New Deal positions on economics and foreign policy). so posing such a link is a waste of time. @Rjensen: Thanks for your thoughtful contribution. Yet, one might still wonder if, when accounting for...
  • 1) southern Democratic resistance to Reconstruction and it's corresponding political shift;
  • 2) Phyllis Schlafly's drawing of white Christian Conservatives to the Republican Party during the period of Barry Goldwater;
  • 3) Richard Nixon's Southern Strategy;
  • 4) the rise of the hippie movement in the Democratic Party;
  • 5) the Democratic "Third Way" realignment as "New Democrats"; and,
  • 6) the last 15 years of further polarization between modern Liberals and Conservatives,
¶ → ... that perhaps, when accounting for these polarized shifts, they might not be too different in ideology, after all? It's often said that the modern GOP are the descendants of the historic Confederates/Democrats, and for good reasons (regional "Solid South" aspects, their continued love and respect for the Confederate flag, common usage of "States' rights" phrase, threats of succession, opposition to integration and/or multiculturalism, generic contempt for "others", wilful blindness toward minority struggles, contempt for "secular Jewish culture" (aka Cultural Bolshevism, aka Cultural Marxism), identity in Christian fundamentalism and evangelism, as well as an over-exaggerated pride in white ethnic identity).
¶ → When taking all of these things into account, the similarities between the two Coulters really do seem strikingly similar. But, I can certainly see how one could get caught up on names, like "Democrat" and "Republican"... even though the times do change, as do political Platforms and allegiances. "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet." Nuanced voters don't generally worry about names and titles, but rather, substantive policy and what people actually represent.
¶ → Regardless of how similar their worldviews and ideologies are (even though they went by different titles), even that can not be used as a measure of whether or not they're related. For that reason, I'll provide a more coherent explanation to the IP user, @Unschool:, and anyone else who may be wondering. Here it is:
¶ → We don't know. Unless a link can be found between the two of them, there's no reason to believe they're closely related. For that reason, it will not be speculated in that way, in the article. KnowledgeBattle (Talk) | GodlessInfidel ︻╦╤── 04:39, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
