Andy Martin (American politician)

Can you be a politician if you've never held a political office? I suggest that the page be moved to Andy Martin (American lawyer). — goethean 04:18, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • imo you can be a 'politician' without holding office, just not a 'public official' (elected or appointed). Flatterworld (talk) 13:53, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
He is not a lawyer -- he was never admitted to the bar. In any case, the article is poorly titled.
If he is a politician, he ought to have political views; what are they? He has frequently run for office, but has he ever worked (or tried to work) in the structure of a party to influence public policy or expenditures? I would think that the epithet "politician" would be given to someone involved in the day-to-day give and take; has he ever done that? In fact, the article says nothing about the platform(s) he ran on in his many campaigns for office; what would he do if he were elected? Only that early on he "became involved in consumer advocacy". (What specifically did he advocate or litigate? Is he still involved?) The reader could come away with the impression that his career consists entirely of ad hominem attacks. Were these content-free election campaigns? — Solo Owl (talk) 21:25, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why Andy Martin has a Wiki page at all-- he's not a celebrity, he's not a politican, he has no supporters, no base. He's never held a position of authority on any level. He's been on tv with unsubstantiated rumors? And? So? 71.254.1.10 (talk) 18:10, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you kidding? This guy ROOLZ!! Now that Rob Ford is leaving the scene, Martin may be my favorite "entertaining" politician/talking head. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.228.6.74 (talk) 09:52, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vexatious litigant

"Vexatious litigant" is a legal term of art, well understood in the legal community. If courts have labeled Martin a vexatious litigant, it isn't POV to report that fact, nor does the article need to soften that wording. --Weazie (talk) 17:10, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is reported just as you described in the proper section, but the court's label is not appropriate in wikipedia's voice in the lead.--William S. Saturn (talk) 17:18, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree. His status as a vexatious litigant is not at present an allegation, it is a finding of law. Describing Andy Martin with the phrase "Andy Martin is a vexatious litigant" is a simple statement of fact. Msaunier (talk) 07:02, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Godfather of birtherism"? [Query]

I saw this "Talking Points Memo" piece, "Birther Vs. Birther : Andy Martin Calls Orly Taitz "Incompetent" And "Obvious Crackpot". http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/birther-vs-birther-i-andy-martin-i-calls-orly-taitz-incompetent-and-obvious-crackpot In it, Martin refers to himself as the god-father of "birtherism".

This Snopes Article mentions Martin, "a political gadfly". In 2004, he said that President Obama "misrepresented his heritage" and "is a Muslim who has concealed his religion." No mention of either the parental issue or birthplace. http://www.snopes.com/hillary-clinton-started-birther-movement/

This WP article says that Martin has questioned President Obama's religion and his parentage, but doesn't say that he questioned the man's birthplace. If Martin is indeed a birtherist, questioning that birthplace, are there other known sources to corroborate TTP?

By the way - this article talks about Martin's lawsuit against Wikipedia and Wikimedia for fraud, "Wikipedia Is A Pro-Obama, Tax-Exempt Scam, Senate Candidate Andy Martin Claims". http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/17/andy-martin-wikipedia-is_n_396003.html Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 08:45, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That Martin is a birther is evident by the numerous sources in this article. Martin has referred to himself as the godfather of birtherism, but I don't think anyone else has. Martin originally questioned Obama's religion in 2004; when he also started questioning Obama's citizenship is not (yet) reliably sourced. --Weazie (talk) 19:00, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This source (and other) conflate questioning Obama's religion and "otherness" with the explicit query into his place of birth. Weazie (talk) 19:36, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
