Husband/partner

Why does the article twice address his husband as his "partner"? From what I can tell, same-sex marriage in Massachussetts carries the same status as straight marriage.

Age of consent

Is there any evidence he violated age of consent laws? Any at all? It seems unlikely (age 17, year 1973). Unless there is, I think that part should be removed. 70.183.123.253 04:18, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The age-of-consent in Massachusetts is 16 years of age, IIRC, although I don't know if that applies to homosexual intercourse. Ruthfulbarbarity 17:15, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is the age of consent different in Illinois? Because "in Studds' case, a 1973 sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male congressional page who was of the age of legal consent" seems to indicate Crane's was a different matter. Was it?--T. Anthony 22:34, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Page/age

Was the name of the page ever made public and what State was he from? Was he from Massachusetts and/or from Studds district? IIRC, the "AOC" in both DC and Mass. at the time was 16, but if the page was from Florida, the age is 18. This would go to the confusion surrounding statutory laws from state to state.

I realize that.
What I'm saying is that age-of-consent laws-in many instances-didn't apply to homosexual intercourse, which was not decriminalized in many states until Lawrence v. Texas, or by inferior courts years prior to that decision.
I'm not sure if that applied to Massachusetts-or the District of Columbia-at the time when the conduct of Studds occurred.
I would assume that the name of the page is a matter of public record-since he and Studds held a press conference related to this issue, IIRC-but I couldn't locate it on the Internet. Ruthfulbarbarity 20:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I went to some lengths to check out the story of the press conference and it didn't happen. I just edited the article saying this. What appears to be true is that Studds stayed friends with the page long after the incident and after the inquiry (which was around 10 years after the incident). 67.117.130.181 16:23, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death

Studds has just died, but I cannot find an article source for this, other than the CNN.com homepage right now. I won't put it into the article until a source can be found. JP06035 as 4.157.83.111 13:48, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is the AP report,
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15260256/
I just added it under "external links." Ruthfulbarbarity 17:54, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a CNN report,
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/10/14/obit.studds.ap/index.html
They're both copy from the Associated Press, i.e. it's the same report.
I'm not sure if the first link in references contains the full story, so I'm not certain if both links should remain or if including them both would be redundant. Ruthfulbarbarity 01:49, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So now that he's passed on, do we remove the box at the top regarding "living persons"? 4.232.186.40 05:19, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's already been removed. Ruthfulbarbarity 14:55, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not an improvement

I deleted Category:Stautory Rapists. Lemonsquares inserted Category:Modern Pederasty. As you can imagine, I don't think that's an improvement. Reality check please. Am I alone in my view of what editorial discretion dictates in this particular biography? BLP doesn't apply. Studds is dead. But does the fact of his death mean he's fair game for this sort of derogatory categorization. David in DC (talk) 20:13, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Third opinion: Neither are appropriate, I don't think. Adding those categories seems a little WP:POV. I like the current version, which does not have either of those categories. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 14:03, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
