DNB has Fauré, which is surely correct, unless (1) his surname was pronounced F-aw-r or (2) they do things differently in Moulins. Schissel | Sound the Note! 03:32, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Russian article has gone with 1: Фор, which agrees with de:, fr:, New Grove, IMSLP and the first editions hosted there. Do I really have to now go and consult the D[ictionary? of] N[ational?] B[iography?]? Sparafucil (talk) 09:12, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think Schissel is referring to the Deutschen National Bibliothek. However, We do not defer to the German National Library's idiosyncratic choice for a French singer. According to major reference books, the Bibliothèque nationale de France] [1] and even French Wikipedia [2], it is Faure without the accent, not an uncommon French surname. Actually, I was also going by my memory of French pronunciation (and making a bad guess therefrom). So far as I remember Faure without a é would just be pronounced "Fawr"- which of course may be exactly how it's meant to be pronounced (unlike, e.g., Gabriel-Urbain Fauré.) But as to its being a not uncommon French surname even without the accent (which leaves the question of pronunciation, which I for one would like to see put in, since I'm guessing some people are likely to get it confused) - that's the important thing, yes- thanks for that info.
