John Payne Todd

The article on Dolley Madison frequently calls him "Payne Todd" without the John, but here, he's referred to as John. Unfree (talk) 20:31, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Payne was his mother's maiden name, and the name he frequently went by, but his given name was John. See the photo of his grave on the following link: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=1562 AJseagull1 (talk) 22:46, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Reliable historic sources (RS) say that he was called Payne Todd during his life; what was on his gravestone was his full name. The article is about his life and uses the terminology of RS.Parkwells (talk) 21:29, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Cause of Alcoholism, Etc.

The article mentions that Todd was made to spend eight years in a Catholic boarding school. Based on what we now know about the Catholic church and its clergy, is it possible that he was sexually or otherwise physically abused by the Catholic clergy, thus leading to his alcoholism, belligerency, and irresponsible lifestyle?Alexander Springstea (talk) 05:32, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Who did he sue?

Clarified content to note that he threatened to sue his cousin Anne Cutts over his mother's estate. She had cared for his mother in her later years, and Madison bequeathed her half of her estate.Parkwells (talk) 12:22, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
