When?

When should this get updated for Obama's cabinet? Before or after he is inaugurated? BobAmnertiopsisChatMe! 23:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

At least after the Senate confirms his nominees.—Chris! ct 23:59, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Things to address before TFL

  • Are they really "female-appointed" or just females who have been appointed? Disagrees with the blurb. Fixed
  • Vaguely confused by the # col. This relates directly to the position they held, so why is it separate from that column? Done
  • Year appointed doesn't sort correctly in both tables (because the dashes). Fixed

Cite news to cite web

Therequiembellishere Why are you reformatting Template:Cite news templates to Template:Cite web templates? Mitchumch (talk) 08:03, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was under the impression that they were functionally the same template now, particularly for url cites. Therequiembellishere (talk) 08:26, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Therequiembellishere: I was not aware of this change. I researched it further and found "Choosing between {{Cite web}} and {{Cite news}}" on the Template:Cite web article.
I also wanted to ask why you're adding Trumps Cabinet picks within Template:Hidden to this article, List of foreign-born United States Cabinet Secretaries, and List of African-American United States Cabinet Secretaries? No one knows who will be confirmed to the position, therefore their gender, ancestry, or place of birth is unknown. I had to remove content on 09:15, 26 December 2016‎ in part because "cabinet picks do not equal senate confirmed secretaries".
I also wanted to let you know your edits to this article broke citation number 34 and produced an improperly coded "Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare" row in the Defunct departments section. Mitchumch (talk) 08:59, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
None of those refs were affected by the switch, right? I don't recall any of the few differing parameters. The hidden Trump nominees are just to make things easier and to potentially prevent less experienced editors from fully adding them without proper qualification. If they aren't approved, the hidden sections are removed with no change for the casual reader and if they are, their entry is prepared to go. I understand WP:CRYSTAL, but I do think some degree of reasonable expectation shouldn't precluding a hidden inclusion at a minimum. These are unconventional times, but there is no filibuster and 52 Republican Senators. While something surprising could certainly occur, it is rather more a game of when and not if these appointees will be confirmed.
Apologies for the oversight, fixed now. Therequiembellishere (talk) 09:18, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Therequiembellishere: Essentially, it is WP:CRYSTAL within Template:Hidden. The hidden note doesn't change what it is. If you can't provide a citation for the assertion, then it doesn't belong in an article. If you want to make it easier for less experienced editors, then create a blank version. But, the filled-in version needs to be removed. Mitchumch (talk) 10:59, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cabinet level

I propose spinning off "Females who have held cabinet-level positions" into it's own list. This is a featured list. Adding two names of cabinet level department heads is very far from complete. Not only that, but the lead would need to be changed as well. I think it makes more sense to do another list because there is a distinction between cabinet members and non-cabinet members. In the alternative, I would suggest compiling the cabinet-level women in a sandbox or draft space before adding them to this list. Knope7 (talk) 00:26, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of female United States Cabinet SecretariesList of female United States Cabinet members – After recent edits adding then removing members of the Cabinet/nominees who do not have the title of secretary (OMB, Trade rep, EPA, etc.), I see no reason to exclude them. They are just as much official members of the Cabinet leading their own agencies, just not executive departments. Official White House pages like The Cabinet (and those of his predecessors) do not make any distinction between a supposed "full cabinet" and "cabinet-level". Reywas92Talk 19:10, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Support it makes sense to have a list of female cabinet members who aren't cabinet secretaries somewhere, and that place would be here. I disagree with the claim that there's "no distinction", Presidents have free reign to add and remove members who are not Cabinet Secretaries, and only Cabinet Secretaries are in the line of succession. 75.162.124.147 (talk) 02:15, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Terrible Changes

Cabinet Secretaries is U.S. equivalent to government ministers in other contries and this posts cant be removed, while cabinet-level officials are not and may be elevated or removed on the wish of the President, see comically example when Donald Trump put UN Ambassador in Cabinet-Level and removed position one year later. Same with Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency or Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, Cabinet-Level in Clinton, Obama, and Biden administrations but demolished by Bush and Trump in their Cabinets. And list can go on.
