The editor that made the decision to "merge" the content of the radio article into this article has done a great disservice to persons researching and interested in researching Old Time Radio. This article itself, claims O'Daniel's fame was due to the popularity of that radio show. Cause and effect. If O'Daniel is notable, of which there is no disagreement, how can a highly rated show that launched his career not be notable?

Admittedly, I started the radio article. I did so, because it is fascinating and notable that such a character as O'Daniel was launched from such humble beginnings.

Furthermore while the radio show was hosted by the the subject pf this article, but the band leader and namesake of the show was his son. Therefore I feel a redirect from the son's band's show to a political father is inappropriate.

Certainly the radio article was stub class, but how do articles grow? by existing. This articles radio section can be expanded of course, but it would be a mish mash of topics.

Wikipedia has a distinct "modernist" leaning, with wikibullies deciding what is or is not significant based on whats hot now. Radio was the internet of the 1930s. It fascinated the masses. Shows like the one glossed over in this article, created a political career. To be subjugated as a paragraph in a politician page is a disservice to history.

The show artice was Pat O'Daniel and his Hillbilly Boys My primary interest on wikipedia is documented early radio broadcast histories. as stated above, a show that was so incrediblky popular that it launched a grassroots political "boss" deserves more than a redirect. IMHO. I am unsure how to contest a merge, I am more apt to just start it again, but that does not seem to be the preferred way. K3vin (talk) 03:12, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still a bit confused. The article is titled Pat O'Daniel, and in the body says Pat O'Daniel is Pappy O'Daniel's son... but then it later references Pappy O'Daniel. Was it Pat or Pappy? If you really mean his son Pat, who is certainly not as notable as his father Pappy, then I would actually argue that his article should perhaps be merged in with the radio show's article. If you mean Pappy, then I would most certainly agree that the radio show should not be merged in with the article on Pappy. For instance, we have a separate article on the Light Crust Doughboys and he was arguably just as instrumental in helping them form. — e. ripley\^talk 12:23, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for the confusion. I will lay out the characters and companies involved in the nexus of my issue over the radio show. W. Lee O'Daniel = "Pappy", he was working for the Burrus Mill and they had a radio show starring the Light Crust Doughboys. Ultimately he quit that company, hired co X to brand their flour under his name, started a new show which was named after his son the band leader. The host of the show was Pappy Himself. An Analogy could be if The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was actually officially called, Doc Severenson and the NBC Orchestra. Or any other time a named show morphs into a "star vehicle". Pat O'Daniel was almost a stooge within the O'Daniel empire. The reason, I mention the Son, is he was the name sake of his father's show. Dave Thomas named Wendy's after his daughter, but the company was all about Dave.

The crux of my position is, this article is about a person. The pre-merger article was about a topic within the scope of Wikipedia:WikiProject Radio. Using my internet analogy. Yahoo! grew out of Marc Andreeson's bookmark list, as did the Whole Internet Catalog. The subject of this article's entire political career was launched from the show, merged into this article. A person trying to learn about Old Time radio shows, is now redirected to a politician with a radio blurb, instead of a (n admitted) stub which could serve as an acorn for more people to begin editing and expanding. I have started a good number of radio show or star stubs and they inevitably get expanded by people more knowledgeable on the subject. The merge was the antithesis of that process.

I do not think anyone would argue to merge the Light Crust Doughboy article into this, despite, the subject of this article founding and managing the band.
