Production

The siblings who appear in My Sibling's Romance pretend not to know who their 'blood relatives' are. The format of the mystery drama, in which the performers reveal the identity of their 'blood relatives'. My Sibling's Romance is an entertainment show produced by PD Lee Jin-joo after moving to JTBC. At the production presentation last month, PD Lee said, "My friend's older brother appeared on a dating program, and she was very worried. He automatically came up with the program while talking with his friend. I thought it would be so fun if siblings went on a dating program," she said.

Pop culture critic Deok-Hyeon Jeong said, "Dating and siblings may feel disparate, but in fact, the drama genre has dealt with a lot of family love," and added, "It appears that a lot of effort was put into recruiting performers with relationships that viewers can empathize with." He continued, "However, I expect that things will not go smoothly in the future," adding, "The strong family love shown in the beginning may lead to deep emotional conflict in the second half."[9]

- My Sibling's Romance casting process? = My Sibling's Romance was difficult. The number of people contacted through Instagram DM was around 1500 people, but the concept of the program could not be revealed in advance because the new production idea should not be known. After saying only that I was preparing a dating entertainment show, I put in a lot of effort and opened up the concept when I decided that this person was attractive, and the replies were "I'm an only child" and "I'm a sister." There were many cases where the arrangements went awry. In <Transit Love>, there can be multiple 'X lovers', so you could ask the person you recognized at first if there were others, even if there were any disqualifications, but in <Love Siblings>, this was also impossible. Because parents also had to appear on the air, recruitment was much more limited.

- How many cameras are installed? I understand that there is a camera hidden behind what appears to be a mirror. = Similar to <Transit Love>. There are more than 100 units. However, since the cameras are grouped in different spaces and there is not always a performer, the video becomes familiar to the eye and is not very difficult. Staff members hide behind mirrors and commute to work. I rarely encounter the performers except during interviews or when going to the microphone. However, because the staff is nearby, the performers can feel mentally stable. During <Transit Love>, if something was difficult, he would hold it in and then catch us in the interview room and vent about it. What’s interesting is that <Love Brothers> features a slightly new picture. Since my family is next to me, if I have any difficulties, I talk to them right away.

- In episode 1, seeing Se-seung talking on the phone with his father in harmony, I felt happy and worried at the same time. I wonder if this is a broadcast that promotes the 'normal family fantasy' that a family of four consisting of a father, mother and two children is the norm. However, later, various forms such as single-parent families emerged. Was this also something you kept in mind during the interview stage? = The siblings were not recruited with representativeness in mind. We simply gathered attractive people, and as we interviewed them, we found out a variety of inside stories. They say that there are many so-called 'normal families' with a family of four as the standard, but maybe this is the actual ratio? By showing diverse families, viewers can better understand and become immersed in the contestants.
