Yes, "cadete" and "aspirante" are the same rank, students in police academies. In the hierarchy a "aspirante" stands right between "2º tenente" and "subtenente".

"Subtenente" is, generally, someone that entered the police with the rank of soldier and make his way all to the top of the "praças" class (sort of non-comissioned officers), while "2º tenente" or could be a upgraded "subtenente" or the rank of a "aspirante" after completing a 3-year police course.

From "2º tenente" upwards we have comissioned officers ("oficiais"), while from "subtenente" downwards we have non-comissioned officers ("praças"). --Officer Boscorelli (talk) 13:51, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
