"World airport" vs. "International airport"

Is there a distinction or a reason for the choice of words? Any history behind it? - Keith D. Tyler (AMA) 20:46, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IT has been a "World Airport" as long as I have been alive, 25+ years. This is pure speculation, as I have never been able to ascertain the true reasoning behind the name, but it appears that since it is not an International Airport, the powers that be chose "World" as an importance modifier; that is, it sounds like "International" but isn't. WWWA is actually the smaller of the two main OK airports, with Tulsa having the International Airport. Mec modifier (talk/contribs) 06:37, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, many airports were named like that in the United States. In Houston, the new airport finished in 1968 was called Jetero InterCONTINENTAL Airport (now called George Bush Intercontinental Airport) and it didn't have any intercontinental flights for YEARS (the planes wouldn't fly that far back then). Just waiting for some local-yokels to call their new airport "XYZ Intergalactic Airport". Maybe Enid or Lawton can also have an "International Airport" or "World Airport". Ardmore can have a "World Bus Terminal". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.131.246 (talk) 10:55, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Other Facilities

The information under "Other Facilities" is incorrect. I wasn't sure how to edit the information so I thought I would post it here:

The Will Rogers Air National Guard Base is still located at the airport and has been there continually since 1949. The BRAC action cited did move the unit's C-130 aircraft to Pittsburg but only relocated the 137th Maintenance Group and the 185th Air Refueling Squadron to Tinker AFB. They were relocated for the purpose of sharing the maintenance and flying of the KC-135R tankers belonging to the 507th Air Refueling Wing (AFRC). The 137th Air Refueling Wing is NOT located at Tinker AFB.

Southwest / AirTran

Continued edits and reverts to this article need to stop. The aircraft are being operated by AirTran Airways, not Southwest Airlines. As an employee of Southwest this is one of the main DOT requirements we are required to relay to passengers. Misrepresenting this is a violation. This has been attempted to be corrected, but 99.172.172.40 continues to revert this. If there is a specific reason why this keeps happening, please relay it here.

From the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Airports/Archive_11#AirTran.2FSouthwest_SOC_expected_tomorrow.21, it seems the conclusion was reached that AirTran flights should be listed as AirTran Airways operated by Southwest Airlines. There's no need no make a special note about codeshares. This is consistent with other airport articles; see Atlanta. Kennethaw88 (talk) 22:03, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
However it is completely inaccurate to the actual requirements placed on Southwest and AirTran was describing the service. It is a joint operating certificate. Southwest Airlines isn't operating the aircraft. They are flown by AirTran crews, who are not on the Southwest seniority list nor badged Southwest employees, based on their side of the operating certificate. This is just a case of where a few on Wikipedia got it wrong and it shouldn't be retained. Dfw79 (talk) 13:02, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Where'd today's shooting incident go?

When I came to the page it was mentioned (and it was what I was looking for), but a minute or so later it had disappeared and I don't even see an entry under today's date of any kind in the Editing History. --Haruo (talk) 01:38, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I found it and reverted it. I guess in my haste I was looking for it in the talk-page history instead of the article history, so no wonder it wasn't showing up. But seriously, the article is about an airport, not about aircraft, so a shooting incident at the airport is definitely pertinent. --Haruo (talk) 01:41, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

history

This section begins with World War II, yet even a cursory image search shows that Will Rogers Air Terminal was a building that has clear Art Deco styling, that is, it was obviously built in the 1920s or early 1930s, thus, there must be some history prior to the war. A beautiful building too, but no trace of it in current images. It would nice if someone could fill in a little of the earlier history, maybe even a native of Oklahoma City?
