Only one railroad in Iuka!

"[Grant] also ordered Rosecrans's army on a coordinated move along the Mobile and Ohio Railroad ..."

No, not so. Rosecrans came up the Jacinto road from the southwest. M&O RR is in Corinth, 22 miles east of Iuka. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.42.113.28 (talk) 21:45, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two Notes by Foote: Emerson Foote's grandmother has an online diary with new information about this confrontation. She was young woman from Eastport, Mississippi when she met her husband while he was employed building the Mobile and Ohio Railroad south of Corinth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:7C0:8103:5CBF:3154:11A2:D224:50BC (talk) 18:46, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Kitchen's author is my first cousin, Thornwood Books is my publishing experiment. I was born in Burnsville in 1937. I believe it is important to this story to point out that the attorney-head of the Memphis & Charleston had his second home in Iuka. When Grant stayed in Iuka he used Robert Campbell Brinkley's home, where Brinkley died in 1878. More horses were lost in Battle of Iuka than any other battle of Civil War. After his superiors were killed or wounded, Henry Neil of Columbus, Ohio took over command of the battery. Neil's account is book "A Battery at Close Quarters". The Neil estate became the Ohio State campus when the University was founded.
