Liam Davies (born 31 March 1996) is a British professional boxer. He has held the International Boxing Organization (IBO) super-bantamweight title since March 2024.

Amateur career

As an amateur, Davies won silver medals at the 2016 and 2018 ABAE National Championships, he also won on the Semi-finals of the 2017 Haringey Box Cup.[1]

Professional career

Early career

Liam Davies made his Professional debut against Georgian boxing veteran, Khvicha Gigolashvili, whom he defeated, in December 2018 at Holiday Inn, Birmingham. Davies also was signed to Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions.

Davies vs. Cairns

Liam Davies won his first title as he prevails against Sean Cairns via corner retirement for the vacant British bantamweight strap.[2]

Davies vs. Flores

A year after, Davis won the WBC International Silver (An Interim title for the WBC International title) super bantamweight title against Dixon Flores.[3]

Davies vs. Baluta

In June 2022, Davies defeated Marc Leach for the British super bantamweight title, which would make Davies hungry for more regional titles, and so he fought for the WBC International and the vacant European super bantamweight titles against Romanian boxer, Ionut Baluta and won decisively via unanimous decision.[4]

Davies vs. Cunningham

Later, Davies sought to defend 3 of his earned regional titles against worthy compatriot, Jason Cunningham, whilst Cunningham's WBO International title was also at stake, the match was set at Telford, Davies' hometown, on 29 July 2023[5] at the match, Davies successfully made his hometown fans not only surprised, but also satisfied as he stunned Cunningham with an upsetting 1st round TKO.[6][7]

Davies vs. La Femina

As not only, the English super bantamweight champion, not only the British super bantamweight champion but also the European champion, Davies hopes to go far east to take on the fierce and powerful Naoya Inoue for the super bantamweight titles, to get higher on the ranks, Davies defended his European championship against Italian challenger, Vincenzo La Femina on November 18, 2023,[8] Davies and La Femina had an entertaining third round, both tasting the canvas, however, Davies with his newfound power, was able to secure the victory via stoppage in the 5th round.[9]

Davies vs. Robles

Davies, whom is keen to be challenged by a world champion, decided to test himself against talent-laden, former IBO super bantamweight champion, Erik Robles Ayala or Erik Robles for the vacant title, Robles once had on 16 March 2024, although the IBO title is a minor world title, it sets Davies on higher peaks.[10] Davies, who once outboxed his opponents to win via decision, now is destroying elites with newfound power, and it showed, against Robles, whom he just steamrolled in two rounds, to prevail as the new IBO super bantamweight champion.[11]
