Description James H. Harris, Medal of Honor recipient. Harris won the medal for his actions fighting for the Union Army in the Battle of Chaffin's Farm during the American Civil War. Harris was born and raised in St. Mary's County, Maryland. This photograph was part of the material prepared by W.E.B. Du Bois for the Negro Exhibit of the American Section at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900 to show the economic and social progress of African Americans since emancipation.
