List of people from Oklahoma includes people not from Oklahoma?

It seems this list contains people who are not from Oklahoma (i.e. Shannon Miller). After further inspection, the first line of this list says the list contains "people who were either born/raised or have lived for a significant period of time in Oklahoma". It seems this article includes more than it should. It would be very easy to find a person on this list without reading the first sentence and decide the person is from Oklahoma when they really are not. I also noticed that the List of people from Texas does the same thing whereas the List of people from California does not. I'm not sure exactly how to fix this since a list of people who have spent a significant time in Oklahoma is also important. Ash Lux 22:47, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notable criteria

I suggest removing red linked entries. If a person is notable and deserving of being on this list then a minimal criteria should be a Wikipedia entry. Ronald Joe Record (talk) 01:00, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree: limit the list to thise with wiki articles. Otherwise, this list will come to resemble the phone book, full of wannabe notables.

Ok, I made this change, removing all red link entries. However, some of these are likely notable and deserving of their own Wikipedia entry. Hopefully other editors can examine the history here, provide individual articles, and restore the entries to this list appropriately. Ronald Joe Record (talk) 22:08, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good job. The policy of removing all redlinked and nonlinked names has makes this list much less susceptable to vandalism and self-promoting wannabes. Other such lists should follow this example. Plazak (talk) 20:22, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

from Oklahoma?

I think it's ok to have people who were not born but only raised in Oklahoma.
But there are people like wrestler Beth Phoenix. At least her article does not even mention Oklahoma with a single word. 82.141.73.182 (talk) 22:32, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bud Wilkinson was not from Oklahoma though he is one of the premier coaches of OU football. Buff72.200.202.185 (talk) 05:28, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Native American or author?

Hi - Why is "Native American" a separate category? Nobody else is defined by racial category or citizenship - are we saying that Euro-Americans and other races are defined by their job while Natives are defined by their CDIB card? Vizjim (talk) 09:40, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
