Augustus Washington Starr, and the other army personnel involved, are a more interesting story than you tell. The army men did not believe th relocation was necessary, as in their view these were all peaceable indians, either "owned" or working for local farmers. The only 'problem" with them was that "bad whitemen" were threatening to kill them. The reports indicate that the cavalry men got off their horses to indians could ride.
