Does anyone know if Richard Woolsey from stargate based on this guy? Someone brought it up on his discussion so I thought Id bring it up here so if it was it could be mentioned in this article if he was.Irate velociraptor 04:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, they certainly look alike. 1ne 05:26, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictory

This article states that Woolsey is a conservative Democrat, then goes on in the categories section to state that he's a neoconservative. Since he's a member of the Project for a New American Century, I really don't know either way what his political leanings are.

It says he's been known primarily as a conservative democrat, not that he is one. --Golbez 03:10, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Being traditionally Democratic on social and economic issues but being hawkish on foreign policy doesn't make you a neocon...if that's what we use to decide if someone's a neocon or not, then Bill Clinton is one. 1ne 03:20, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Right, hm, true. Maybe his being in the Neocon cat is incorrect. --Golbez 03:23, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Since the "Neocon" category has been removed, I guess the article is not self-contradictory anymore?Biophys 21:19, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Being a member of the Project for a New American Century means being neoconservative, no? Since the article provided no evidence for him being a general conservative, but did provide evidence that he's associated with a neoconservative organization and arguing for neoconservative positions, I changed "conservative" in the first sentence to "neoconservative". It would be very helpful to know more about his foreign policy positions and tenure as CIA director to judge this. Maybe the National Security Archive has more info about this? He is more liberal on some environmental issues. Anyway he does identify as a "Scoop Jackson Democrat"[1] whether the party wishes to claim him or not.--T. Anthony (talk) 09:29, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Deletion of "Criticism" section

Unless we're going to start listing generic "criticism" of every individual on Wikipedia, there's no reason Mr. Woolsey deserves special attention.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.208.39.250 (talk • contribs)

The criticism is well-sourced and notable. Do not remove it again. — goethean 21:49, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference #11 EELPJ Symposium 2007 Link

Attempted to edit the references to correct the link for item 11, the 2007 EELPJ Symposium. However, the reference page was completely blank. This may be naivete on my part about editing that page, or the contents are protected due to previous problems alluded to in a talking point above.

The link below is the PDF text of Woolsey's keynote speech. Unfortunately the video was removed along with the original page link.

Soviet campaign against the Vatican

In a 2007 article, Ion Mihai Pacepa recalls how "In my other life, when I was at the center of Moscow's foreign-intelligence wars, I myself was caught up in a deliberate Kremlin effort to smear the Vatican, by portraying Pope Pius XII as a coldhearted Nazi sympathizer."[1] A May 12, 2009 article published in the Jerusalem Post, which dealt with Pacepa’s claim, stated that “former CIA director James Woolsey has vouched for Pacepa's personal credibility. Pacepa's memoir ‘Red Horizons’ formed the basis for the indictment and conviction of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, who was executed in 1989.” A June 2009 article published in the American Catholic shows that new documents found in the Vatican archives also support Pacepa’s claim. Gary Krupp, president of the Pave the Way Foundation, is analyzing these documents—over 25,000 that have never before been seen. ADM (talk) 13:15, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reasons for leaving role as Director of Central Intelligence

There are no details in this article as to why he left his role as Director. The article on Aldrich Ames (Russian CIA spy exposed during Woolsey's tenure) makes this statement:

'There was a "huge uproar" in Congress when CIA director James Woolsey decided that no one in the CIA would be dismissed or demoted at the agency. "Some have clamored for heads to roll in order that we could say that heads have rolled," Woolsey declared. "Sorry, that's not my way." Woolsey was forced to resign.[33]'

This appears to be sourced and seems like an important point. Any reason this is not included in the article? 87.115.169.96 (talk) 12:15, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Career duplicates Controversies

The final paragraph of Career (In a controversial act...) is duplicated nearly word for word in the Controversies section where it more reasonably located.--BoboLink81 (talk) 18:44, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eric Diesel, James Woolsey, and Robert Gallucci

Does anyone have information and reliable secondary sources on the connection between Eric Diesel, James Woolsey and Robert Gallucci, as posted here[2]? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.130.156.204 (talk) 17:38, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

External link?

Would an interview with transcript with James Woolsey from 1987 be useful here as an external link? Focus of conversation is nuclear weapons policy. http://openvault.wgbh.org/catalog/V_3ADA7199E4BA4FE0868D033808A6234D (I have a conflict of interest; otherwise I would add it myself.) Second wife -- bogus info added?

Was Woolsey's second wife really a "registered foreign agent"? Hmmm. 96.241.16.150 (talk) 01:05, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Individual-1?

There has been speculation online in social media that Woolsey is Individual-1 mention in the indictment of Gal Luft. See [3]. 2603:7000:9C02:90F9:3D3F:2A00:964A:98C3 (talk) 01:52, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
