I'm wondering if Highway 412 was always designated as such, or if it's a recent creation. In Tennessee, for instance, 412 is co-located with a state highway (20, I think). If memory serves correctly, it was just a state highway for a long time, but it was only within the last 20 years or that it was also signed as U.S. 412. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 05:01, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

US 412 has always been designated as such. It is considered a "numbering violation" as it has no connection with U.S. Highway 12. Usually, three digit highways are branches of their two digit counterparts (412 should branch from 12, but doesn't). Another similar highway is U.S. Highway 400. Why 412 was created, I don't know. US 400 is intended as a possible extension of Interstate 66 if it ever gets built that far. -- Rt66lt 03:25, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

In Tennessee, US 412 is multiplexed with Interstate 155. Most of Tennessee State Route 20 still serves as the hidden designation for this route as well as a small portion of Tennessee State Route 99. Pepper6181 (talk) 02:52, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Highway 412 has not always been designated as such. It came into existance in the mid-1980's. In Arkansas, it replaced Arkansas State Highway 68 and Arkansas State Highway 25. In Oklahoma, it replaced Oklahoma State Highway 33 between the Arkansas State Line and Tulsa.

This article should contain the information of Arkansas State Highway 68 because (according to the article) that highway has been renamed thus. It makes no sense to have two articles about the same highway. Falcon 06:02, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. Arkansas State Highway 68 only ran from Siloam Springs to Alpena, but was a major east-wet route in its heyday. U.S. Highway 412 runs all the way across the state and includes what was once Arkansas State Highway 25. US 71 02:21, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I diasgree also. AR 68 and US 412 aren't the same thing. US 412 exists in other states (such as Missouri and Oklahoma) and adding additional information about every state highway that it replaced would clutter the US 412 article. Rt66lt 14:50, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is the western terminus of US 412 actually Interstate 25, or is it really (what is effectively) US 85? If we're going by what the US 56 article indicates, it should be US 85 and the beginning of NM 21, which would agree with mapguy's info. Signage may be sketchy, but the NMSHTD has clear route logs. [1] shows US 56 beginning at the I-25 business loop, though US 412 isn't shown because it's completely overlapped. --NE2 18:24, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
