Summary

Description
English: Kentucky Historical Marker #2233 at the entrance to Isaac Shelby Cemetery. Obverse: "Isaac Shelby, 1st & 5th governor, came to Ky. as a surveyor in 1775. He claimed 1400 acres in 1776 by raising a crop of corn. In 1779 he received 1st land settlement & preemption deed granted by Va. Land Commission. His home, Traveler's Rest, completed in 1786. Upon his death in 1826, he was the only settler living on his original Va. land grant." Reverse: "Settled 1776. This property was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 by the United States Department of the Interior."
