Arrangement

Anyone feel this list might be better arranged by what the individuals are noted for (Sports, Music, Politics, etc.) than alphabetically? I think it would be helpful. Acdixon 13:22, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done, per no comments. Acdixon 15:53, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

Any opposition to moving this article to List of people from Kentucky so it'll be consistent with the majority of other articles found at Category:Lists of people by U.S. state? Acdixon 15:53, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No; I say put it under non-controversial part of WP:RM. 146.186.210.78 20:33, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good enough for Featured List

Now that it is properly sourced, what else might prevent this list from passing a Featured List review? Any help is appreciated. Acdixon 15:53, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Add To List

The new setup looks great, but I'm wary of adding to it with my limited knowledge of linking. Anyway, I'll drop you names to add. For actors, add Lee Majors who was raised in Kentucky from age 2 or so until about 23 or 24. Sir Rhosis 19:42, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To Literature, add: Andrew Offutt, science fiction/fantasy author, father of Chris, and Gurney Norman, author. Sir Rhosis 19:47, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To Explorers, add: Daniel Boone —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.17.144.165 (talk) 20:57, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need to add Johnny "Peanut" Lemaster, MLB Player from Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky Need to add Willie Blair MLB Pitcher from Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky Need to add Hylo Brown, famous Bluegrass Singer and Musician from Johnson County, Kentucky Need to add the members of the music group "Exile" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.176.21.49 (talk) 03:01, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Literature: Irvin S. Cobb was born in Paducah. Steamboat28 (talk) 10:31, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Like Sir Rhosis above I am leary of making edits myself but I would like to propose an addtion to the Scientist List for Scott G Hubbard born 1948 in Elizabethtown, Hardin Co, KY. He is truly a rocket scientst having worked with NASA on a number of projects. Here are two of many citations on the web which back op the above information. Citations

There is no need for citations where the internal link to the Wiki article refers to an article that contains the citation.--Epeefleche 21:12, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The linked article contains no inline citations. I went ahead and followed one of the external links and got the cite. Not sure if I'll ever be able to get this to featured list, but I want to make sure all the information stays cited in the meantime. Acdixon 02:44, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you wish. If you want to clean up the article further, I think it is not Wiki policy to inline link (e.g., Lousiville) a second time once an article already has a link. That, however, is done here throughout. Cheers.--Epeefleche 14:34, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You may be right. Should I ever get back to cleaning this up more, I'll look into it. I figured it was better to have it twice than not at all. In a few instances, the second cite is different from the first (one documents the notability of the individual, the other the person's connection to Kentucky.) Acdixon 20:00, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infamous Category

The category should be deleted and the names placed with "Other Kentuckians of Note"

STRONGLY SUPPORT On the following grounds
  1. The majority of the people listed do not have a "bad reputation" (which is, by definition, the characteristic of an infamous person). Indeed most people would regard Casey Jones as heroic rather than infamous.
  2. The category is POV. I realized this when I added Larry Birkhead to the list. Upon reflection, it is my opinion that he's infamous, based on the fact that I personally disagree with how he conducts himself.

SonPraises (talk) (contributions) 07:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Casey Jones, I placed him there because he's best known for the way he died. Same for Floyd Collins and Ray Chapman. The category was once called "Infamous / dubious." I don't think "Other Kentuckians of note" quite fits, but I'm open to other suggestions. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 11:59, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again my problem is that, infamous doesn't mean most noted for the way in which one has died; it means having a bad reputation. Ray Chapman can easily be placed with the sports figures and Floyd Collins can be placed with the explores. SonPraises (talk) (contributions) 14:02, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not arguing the point about the word infamous. In fact, I think it's very valid. I'm just trying to find another word that best conveys the idea of being notable for something dubious or infamous. I know Chapman and Collins are easy to place elsewhere, but the others might not be. (Haven't looked too closely yet.) Do you have any suggestions? Acdixon (talk contribs count) 14:43, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with coming up with a title is they all tend to stray into POV. (Personally I view Larry Flint as being much more infamous than being either an author or a journalist!) Since the list is broken up by occupation, my suggestion would be to place Ray Chapman with sports figure, Floyd Collins with explorers, Lynndie England with military personnel, and Larry Birkhead and Casey Jones with other persons of note. If that doesn't meet with consensus view, then perhaps "Persons Associated with Scandals, Controversies, or Tragedies."
SonPraises (talk) (contributions) 23:45, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rest assured that I share your view on Larry Flint. I do like the suggestion "Persons Associated with Scandals, Controversies, or Tragedies," but failing that, I'd also be willing to delete the category and disperse its contents as you suggest. It would be nice if it were more than just the two of us having this discussion so we could have some outside opinion. Absent that, I'd say I can live with either decision. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 11:47, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with SonPraises, and concur that the people listed un "Infamous" should be dispersed throughout the other categories. Sincerely, Sir Rhosis (talk) 01:10, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Missing section for Scientists

This article "List of people from Kentucky" previously had a section listing a number of Scientists connected with Kentucky. This section disappeared on 1/24/2012. Hopefully someone with more knowledge and experience than I have can get this section restored. I would also appreciate it if they could also add the scientist I suggested recently Scott Hubbard. See add to list section above for complete information on Scott Hubbard. BigMac316 (talk) 02:56, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Political leaders

Seriously, a few random contemporary state legislators are mixed in with presidents and Vice Presidents? What’s the criterion for this list? Sajita (talk) 17:56, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
