Note: In this portrait, John Basil Turchin (Ivan Vasilyevich Turchaninov) is wearing a Union military uniform with his jacket unbuttoned, showing his shirt, tie and vest underneath. He is sitting and leaning on a table. Turchin was a Russian artillery officer who served in the American Civil War. He was a Colonel in the 19th Illinois Volunteer Infantry and would become a Brigadier General. Published in Turchin, John Basil. Chickamauga, Volume 1. (1888)
