cement fight

Request to Wikipedia editors: Someone keeps inserting false information about the history of the cement plant fight.

Friends of Hudson was the lead group challenging the St. Lawrence Cement project. Linda Mussmann was one of many people opposed to the project. Now that she supports that company, she has falsely claimed that she was the leader of the opposition. Any objective review of the hundreds of news articles about this issue and also the PBS documentary Two Square Miles clearly demonstrates that Mussmann's claim is absurd. Abuse and vandalism

This page was stable for a some time, but lately has become the target of abuse and vandalism.

For example, a user at the static IP address 24.105.212.83 has repeatedly undone or overwritten more neutral postings, substituting posts which promote specific businesses or interests, and/or have no place in an encyclopedia entry. This user at 24.105.212.83 has repeatedly:

  • Promoted a specific developer (who happens to have been at the center of several controversies);
  • Promoted a specific art gallery (just one out of a dozen in the city);
  • Inserted easily-debunked revisionist information about the cement plant fight which took up nearly seven years of City history.

Dear Tom: Your edits are appreciated. Please note that there is no question locally that Peter Jung and Sam Pratt led the cement fight. If you were to call every newspaper editor in the region, none of them would identify Linda Mussmann as the person "spearheading" that effort. She had no decision-making role at all in any of the three dozen groups which opposed SLC. Whoever keeps inserting her name in this manner is simply vandalizing the site for malicious reasons. Read, for example, this article in The Independent (a twice-weekly newspaper owned by a major national media chain) which identifies Pratt as the "opposition leader," and "executive director of Friends of Hudson." Someone keeps adding the following comment: "The style of the buildings Galloway remodelled is commonly referred to as New Hudsonian." I have NEVER heard anyone in Columbia County refer to any buildings as "New Hudsonian." Some anonymous users (likely a single user with more than one IP address) have been vandalizing this page in violation of Wikipedia rules. For example, there have been references to a sale of a "mansion" in Hudson. There are no privately-owned mansions in Hudson, only Olana State Historic site in Greenport. Furthermore Columbia County real estate records show that the house in question was not sold shortly after the end of the cement plant controversy, but instead over two years after its end. Both of of the principle leaders of the cement battle have remained involved in Hudson politics and issues after April 2005, and neither of them was paid for more than six years' labor. The same user(s) posting these slanders have also been responsible for other unsourced, inaccurate claims, many of a promotional or partisan nature. Also, the same user(s) have not provided explanations for their edits and continual reassertion of historically revisionist, subjective information, simply reverting responsible edits without comment, sometimes as often as four or five times daily. 8th largest city in US in 1790?

If it was the eight largest city in the US in 1790 then it wouldve been larger than Albany at the time. This statement is incorrect, I've put a [citation needed] tag on it until someone can explain what they meant, if not it'll be removed.24.182.142.254 (talk) 21:54, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
