Description View of canal lock in the Everglades Drainage District circa 1915 ( The Everglades Drainage District was established in 1913 (Ch. 6456, 1913 Laws) for the purpose of draining and reclaiming lands located near the Everglades for agricultural and sanitary purposes. To carry out this mandate, a system of canals, drains, levees, dikes, dams, locks and reservoirs were constructed.)
