Mistake

"...sometimes mistakenly called the Concordantia discordantium canonum" How confident are we that this is actually a mistake?

Peter Stein refers to the document in this way in 'Roman Law in European History' pg 49.

This spelling is also used in 'A History of Private Law in Europe' by Franz Wieacker in the English Translation by Tony Weir, pg 49.

Although neither of the authors are canon law specialists, they are formidable academics. Mrheathcliff 05:26, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gratian and marriage

I'm not sure how to include this, but we ought to include something about his theories of marriage (ie, matrimonium initiatum and matrimonium ratum) here. Got any suggestions about where it should be included in the article? The Jade Knight 06:18, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree it is a key moment in the history of Canon law, but I think I would make only a small mention of it here. It truly deserves it's place in history of marriage, because it was part of how modern marriage came to be understood.

It also needs to pointed out that Gratian's work was NEVER an official document, even though it was virtually treated as one.DaveTroy 19:52, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

check the promulagation

CIC was in force until 1918. Benedict promulaged teh code in 1917, but it did not have legally binding force until Pentacost 1918.DaveTroy 19:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Transferred Text from Corpus Juris Canonici

The article Corpus Juris Canonici is a general article, and it had way too much info on the Decretum. I left a nice intro section there, but moved the rest here. Canon Law Junkie §§§ Talk 00:59, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
