– "Liberal" and "Liberty" have the same translation in Korean. Since the Democratic parties are the liberal parties, Liberty Korea Party, Dawn of Liberty Party and the ko:자유당 (대한민국, 2020년) (translated as "Liberty Party" on articles) use Liberty. • @Braganza: It seems that the Liberal Unification Party is called Liberty Unification Party (which will need as disambig, as there was another party in SK with the same name), as Namuwiki has its English name like this. The others parties, which were created before Saenuri renamed itself Liberty Korea, will nee to be looked into, as a now-banned user proclaimed that the Korean word is used interchangeably between liberal and liberty, which would make sense as no liberal party uses "Liberal" as a party name. Oppose. If I'm understanding this correctly, this proposal seems to be about trying to make the party names more 'sensible' to international readers: these parties are all on the right wing, but "liberal" means mean left-of-centre in some countries, so some readers will get the wrong impression that these parties are on the left when they are not. But this is the wrong approach. For one, "liberal" has a wealth of meanings and is also used by plenty of right-wing parties, even in the English-speaking world (eg: Liberal Party of Australia), so this idea is very Americentric. Two, it's not Wikipedia's place to come up with names and terminology for the reader's benefit, we follow what the sources use. I see that the United Liberal Democrats have an (archived) website in English that uses "United Liberal Democrats". If the balance of reliable sources use "Liberty", then by all means, let's use those; but we shouldn't invent that translation if it doesn't exist. Those pages are probably fine under "Liberty" (the 2020 party clearly used it, though I don't see anything for the current party on its page), but they pose a bit of a problem when it comes to disambiguation… Because if the articles are anything to go by, the 2020 party actually had the name first, and the current party known by as LUP was established under a different name and only adopted the "Liberty Unification" moniker two years ago… — Kawnhr (talk) 16:28, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
