WikiProject AFC is holding a two month long Backlog Elimination Drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running from December 1st, 2013 – January 31st, 2014.

Awards will be given out for all reviewers participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 2400 articles, so start reviewing articles! Visit the drive's page and help out!

It's been done before, both by me (see Talk:Doctor Zhivago, for instance) and others (see here, for example). They're meant to be temporary. When I or someone else has a sufficient amount of data, they go away.... Dohn joe (talk) 05:54, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

@Dohn joe: Please document this project of yours (or others) somewhere others can verify and understand (Is there an end date to this project? Was there or should there be consensus? Should they be removed at some point? Should all links become redirects on disambiguation pages or only some? Which and who decides?).
Make this documentation discoverable, perhaps group these redirects using a "R from .." template/category and link to said documentation from the category description page.
Different editors, especially experienced ones I imagine, will continue to remove these silly-looking redirects if there is no reasonable way to discover why it is (still) there. Sure we assume good faith and should keep innocent and unknown variations in syntax as-is if in doubt, but resolving redirects itself is generally good. Considering redirects are visible to users (through a "Redirected from .." header on the landing page), people will inevitably notice them (especially experienced editors might get itched) and question their usefulness if there is no way of knowing what they are for. Consider coming up with a way to hide them from the user, since they are only for tracking purposes (perhaps hide the the "Redirected from"-message for these kind of redirects by default, using site css?). Lastly, if you intend to create more in the future, a descriptive edit summary (with a link to the documentation) might be useful. Thanks! Krinkle (talk) 20:23, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

I appreciate all those comments, Krinkle. And frankly, I'd implement them all if I knew how. In particular - could you explain how to make them invisible via site css? That's beyond my know-how. Sorry I posted that to the wrong place, I meant to post it to the talk page and I guess I clicked the wrong spot. I forgot for a minute only Arbcom and clerk are allowed to post on the Arbcom Noticeboard. I moved the string to the Arbcom noticeboard talkpage instead. Feel free to revert it again if that's the wrong place. I'm not going to repost it again so that's a good way to stop the discussion before it gets started. Not that I think anything will come of it anyway. The Arbcom has pretty much lost all respect I had for it and I think that is true for the majority of the community as well. @KumiokoCleanStart: The noticeboard is designed for discussion of actual announcements, but editors in the past have started stand-alone threads and I see no reason why you can't too. For future reference, WT:AC would be your other choice; but I would recommend against moving the thread again, simply because the noticeboard talk page seems to the most widely watched. Requesting a slight modification to the bot's procedures for image uploads. Some of us include en:wp links in our Commons description pages with its {{w}} template. When the bot uploads such a page without modifications, chaos happens because our {{w}} template is a welcome template; see the history of File:Carnegie Free Library in Beaver Falls.jpg, on the Main Page right now, for an example. Could you tell the bot to convert links to brackets, e.g. any time it finds {{w|Wikipedia}} to convert it to [[Wikipedia]]? Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 20:09, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

As far as I know, your bot hasn't done this in a long time. As such, I propose that we integrate archive indexing into lowercase sigmabot III (talk · contribs). My bot can create indices as it archives pages, just as ClueBot does, so the indexes will always be up to date.

However, I am not sure what would be done with pages that transclude the HBC config template but not MiszaBot config.
