  • curprev 20:2520:25, 2 February 2021108.45.177.147 talk 12,582 bytes +19 Hi! I hold a Ph.D. in 19thc history from UVA, with a specialty in the coming of the Civil War. What you've written-- that "the North clearly wasn't going to leave slavery alone," and that "John Brown was the North's hero" is simply not true. The Republican Party derived much of its support from white farmers who wished the western territories be kept free of slavery, but they simply did not care about slavery in the South.
