Support request with team editing experiment project

Dear tech ambassadors, instead of spamming the Village Pump of each Wikipedia about my tiny project proposal for researching team editing (see here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Research_team_editing), I have decided to leave to your own discretion if the matter is relevant enough to inform a wider audience already. I would appreciate if you could appraise if the Wikipedia community you are more familiar with could have interest in testing group editing "on their own grounds" and with their own guidance. In a nutshell: it consists in editing pages as a group instead of as an individual. This social experiment might involve redefining some aspects of the workflow we are all used to, with the hope of creating a more friendly and collaborative environment since editing under a group umbrella creates less social exposure than traditional "individual editing". I send you this message also as a proof that the Inspire Campaign is already gearing up. As said I would appreciate of *you* just a comment on the talk page/endorsement of my project noting your general perception about the idea. Nothing else. Your contribution helps to shape the future! (which I hope it will be very bright, with colors, and Wikipedia everywhere) Regards from User:Micru on meta.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, The Anome. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.

NHRP detaggables

So, I ended up here: User:The Anome/NHRP detaggables because of this redirect, Skeleton Cave Massacre Site. I recently created Skeleton Cave (Arizona), and when I was linking other pages to the article, I found the detaggables page. In scanning your list, I came across Work, John, House and Mill Site which I then linked to John Work House and Mill Site which has existed since 2006.

It occurred to me that there may be a number of pages already in existence, but since they are not formatted the same as what's on this page, they aren't being identified as being done. I'm trying to think on how to solve this problem. --evrik (talk)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Community Database License Agreement requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Should Anomebot request geocoords for grade schools in the U. S.?

I'm rather new (I feel VERY newbie), so I hope this is the right place for this question. Actually, it's a request. If it doesn't already, can Anomebot be changed to forego requesting geographic coordinates for primary and secondary schools and school districts active in the United States? School shootings...

Better yet, can it be designed to also remove coordinates added to the articles for active primary and secondary schools and school districts here? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 00:36, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oona, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not quite sure what your threat model is here. The addresses of schools are public, and available on all major mapping services: Google Maps, Bing Maps, Apple Maps, OpenStreetMap, and more. Moreover, school districts have lists of schools in their area, and the addresses for those schools are public, and can in turn be looked up on maps. Removing locations from Wikipedia would have no effect on any of these. On the other hand, schools are public buildings and their location is a valid datum for any of a wide number of legitimate purposes, and therefore seems logical to have on Wikipedia similar to the locations of other public facilities, as is long-established practice.
However, I think your proposal deserves to be heard, and if you'd still like to propose a policy change, I think the correct forum for this would be the Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) page, which would be a good place to post your request. — The Anome (talk) 09:17, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Native american heritage sites?

I used to work for the cabinet secretary in my state who oversaw the department responsible for Native American heritage and they do not make knowledge of the sites public. Utility companies, road construction companies, etc., are told of locations near where they must work but they are not allowed to publicize the locations either. The concern is not just for human remains, but to prevent contributing to the clandestine traffic in Native American artifacts. Should we carry coordinates for these locations in Wikipedia? I've felt less and less comfortable about this as I've been editing... Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 05:44, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If their coordinates are published in official sources, we should have them here unless there are exceptional reasons for us to suppress information that is publicly available elsewhere. If they are kept secret to avoid interference (as is the case for many other archeological sites) they also should not have coordinates here, and you are welcome to remove the {{coord missing}} tag. Can you give some examples of the articles in question? — The Anome (talk) 08:44, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your speedy reply.
Example sites would be Lukaiasta, California mentioned by C. Merriam Hart here:
https://archive.org/details/bancroft_chartmerriam_1556_109/page/n285/mode/2up?q=Lucayasta&view=theater
referring to Frederick W. Hodge here:
https://archive.org/details/handbookamindians02hodgrich/page/778/mode/2up?view=theater,
who in turn was referring to this:
https://archive.org/details/californiafarmer1314unse/page/n61/mode/2up?view=theater&q=April, page 62, column 2, final paragraph.
That was the closest I could find to a location for them. It's just a hunch, but I'm guessing the village was extinct by the time of this article.
I can't find anything at all about the location of Kulul, California.
Paisin (pagosine) was definitely extinct: https://archive.org/details/bancroft_chartmerriam_1556_08/page/n129/mode/2up?q=pagosines&view=theater.
But would you please define official sources? In addition to tribal statements, do they include books and unpublished notes of anthropologists? Some early ones were sensitive and sympathetic, but others like Alfred Kroeber are coming under criticism for their exploitation of native individuals (not mentioned in the article) and, while they were truthful, they may have been publishing information against the will of tribal members who were not yet able to protest effectively. Some tribes have federal recognition and reservation lands. Some do not. Either way, it's distressing to tribal members that they have no control over the ground their ancestors rest in or they do have control and trespassers violate their sovereignty. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 06:32, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I will have to think about this some more, but in the two cases you have given where the coordinates are known to be unknown (that is to say, lost to time), you can tag them with the already existing tag {{coord unknown}}, and I have done so. It's possible we will need a new coord tag for cases where locations are known but not made public for good reasons, we may need a new tag, perhaps something like "coord restricted". This sounds like something worth discussing at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinatesThe Anome (talk) 13:37, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
